The CEO of Lectron, Chris Mewald, addresses the recent recall of the Lectron Vortex adapter, designed to enable non-Tesla EVs to use Tesla Superchargers. Mewald acknowledges the issue, where the NACS connector could detach from the adapter during charging, as a mistake by Lectron, stemming from supplier tolerances. He assures that Lectron has re-engineered the adapter with a stiffer spring and slightly longer pin, and has implemented 100% end-of-line testing with the supplier and for their own products to prevent recurrence. Replacements are being sent to affected customers, with back orders expected to be fulfilled by the second week of June. Mewald also clarifies the reimbursement plan, stating it covers the cost of the replacement adapter, not competitor products. While the UL 2252 certification is still in draft, Lectron is working closely with UL. The company aims to restore customer faith through transparency and swift action.
