The Lexus RZ Luxury, Lexus' first production EV, is put to the test on a 212-mile road trip. While the reviewer praises its exceptional build quality, beautiful and spacious cabin, comfortable ride, excellent Mark Levinson audio, and sharp styling, significant drawbacks emerge for road-trip suitability. The real-world efficiency is a concern, averaging a low 1.9 miles per kWh, which translates to a theoretical range of 189 miles, falling short of the advertised 196 miles, especially when cabin climate control is used. The reviewer notes that using heating or AC can reduce range by up to 30 miles. Charging experience with Electrify America was also problematic, with account recognition issues and incorrect pricing. Despite its strengths as a comfortable and refined city EV, the RZ is deemed not ideal for frequent road trips, with plug-in hybrids suggested as a more practical alternative for longer journeys.
