The 2023 Lexus RZ 450e marks Lexus's long-awaited entry into the dedicated battery-electric SUV segment. Built on the e-TNGA platform shared with the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra, the RZ 450e offers a compelling, albeit polarizing, design and a premium interior experience that aligns with Lexus's brand reputation. The dual-motor powertrain delivers a robust 313 horsepower, enabling a swift 0-60 mph time of around 5 seconds, significantly outperforming its platform mates. The interior boasts high-quality materials, a comfortable and spacious cabin, and an intuitive 14-inch infotainment system. However, the RZ 450e falls short in key EV metrics: its maximum range of 220 miles (dropping to 196 miles with 20-inch wheels) and DC fast charging speeds (up to 150 kW) are considered average to below average compared to competitors. The absence of a frunk and the use of a prop rod for the hood are noted as uncharacteristic for the brand. While the optional steer-by-wire system with a yoke steering wheel offers a futuristic, albeit unusual, driving experience, the standard steering wheel and adaptive suspension provide a comfortable and planted ride, reminiscent of the Lexus RX.
