The 2022 Subaru WRX, while retaining its rally-inspired DNA with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and standard all-wheel drive, presents a mixed bag for enthusiasts. Reviewers noted the new platform brings a stiffer ride, which, despite Subaru's claims of chassis improvements, can lead to a bouncy rebound over rough roads. Power delivery from the updated 2.4-liter engine, while slightly increased, didn't significantly thrill the testers, with a short gearing and an early redline limiting the perceived excitement. The manual transmission, though improved and well-suited for heel-toe downshifting, remains somewhat notchy. Positives include the excellent all-wheel-drive system's ability to put power down effectively and provide forgiving handling, the supportive sport seats, and a well-laid-out driving position.
