Rivian has officially unveiled its highly anticipated R2 and R3 models, aiming to make its innovative electric vehicles more accessible. The R2, positioned as a more compact and affordable SUV, boasts a starting price of $45,000 and is slated for first deliveries in the first half of 2026. Key features highlighted include a spacious interior with fold-flat seats for an in-vehicle camping experience, a unique open-air rear with a drop-down glass, and a new platform utilizing 4695 cylindrical cells. The R2 will offer single, dual, and tri-motor configurations, with the latter achieving 0-60 mph in under 3 seconds and over 300 miles of range. The R3 and its performance-oriented R3X variant were also revealed, offering a crossover form factor with similar interior flexibility and innovative rear access via a flipper glass. Rivian emphasized its vertically integrated electronics, advanced sensor suite for enhanced self-driving capabilities, and a commitment to sustainability in materials. The company also touched upon its expanding service network and charging infrastructure, including integration with the Tesla Supercharger network.
