This comprehensive winter range test by What Car? subjected 12 electric vehicles to real-world conditions to determine their actual driving distances. The Tesla Model 3 Long Range emerged as the most efficient and achieved the longest real-world range of 293 miles, outperforming the Mercedes EQE despite the latter's larger battery and higher price point. The BYD Seal and VW ID.7 also performed respectably, with the ID.7 showing a notable improvement with its heat pump variant, though the cost-effectiveness of optional heat pumps was questioned. Conversely, the Lexus RZ and Jeep Avenger delivered the poorest ranges, with the expensive RZ being the least capable. The test highlighted significant discrepancies between official WLTP figures and real-world winter performance, emphasizing the importance of efficiency, especially with rising electricity costs. The review also noted inaccuracies in some cars' trip computer predictions and the slow degradation of performance as batteries depleted.
