EV Channels Review

The MG S5 EV marks a significant improvement over its predecessor, the ZS EV, offering a fresh design, a refined interior, and a much-improved driving experience. Designed from the ground up as an EV, it shares underpinnings with the acclaimed MG4 hatchback, resulting in a stable, composed, and engaging drive that belies its affordable price point. The cabin is praised for its minimalist design, spaciousness, and practical features like physical climate controls. Practicality is a strong suit, with ample rear-seat room, a flat floor, and a boot that surpasses key rivals like the BYD Atto 3 and Cherry Om E5. However, the S5 EV is not without its drawbacks. The real-world range, while adequate for city driving, may be insufficient for ride-share drivers or those undertaking frequent long trips, with the 62kWh battery offering up to 430km and the 49kWh around 340km. Energy consumption is noted as being on the higher side at 20.4 kWh/100km. Despite these points, the S5 EV's competitive pricing, excellent safety features and rating, and MG's outstanding 10-year/250,000km warranty solidify its position as a compelling option in the budget electric SUV segment.
