The limited production of only 560 units for the US market, exclusively for California, suggests a strategy to meet regulatory mandates rather than a mainstream market push. Despite its shortcomings, the MX-30 offers a fun-to-drive chassis with responsive handling and a natural steering feel, characteristic of Mazda's performance DNA, though it exhibits more body roll than typical Mazda models. The brake pedal feel is praised for its linearity, a rarity in EVs, but the limited two-level regen braking system prevents one-pedal driving. The interior is noted for its upscale fit and finish, though the use of eco-friendly, cardboard-like material on the sills and door panels is considered unusual. Practicality is further hampered by the inconvenient rear-hinged doors and the lack of a frunk. The vehicle's cabin is also surprisingly noisy for an EV, with noticeable motor noise.
