Dave from Out of Spec Dave shares his experience swapping his Tesla Model S's 20-inch T-Sportline wheels for a set of 19-inch Martian MW05 wheels. While the primary motivation was aesthetics, Dave also conducted an informal efficiency test. The initial test with the T-Sportlines covered 62 miles, consuming 15 kWh for an average of 239 Wh/mile. After swapping to the Martian wheels, which feature a staggered setup (255/45/19 front, 285/40/19 rear) and Continental tires, a second 62-mile loop was completed. This time, the consumption was 14 kWh, averaging 226 Wh/mile. Dave concludes that the Martian wheels, despite their more open design compared to aero wheels, offered a slight efficiency improvement, attributing this to factors like lighter weight (22 lbs vs. 31 lbs for the T-Sportlines), taller tire sidewalls, and a staggered stance. He also notes a smoother and quieter ride. While acknowledging the test's informal nature, Dave is pleased with both the look and the marginal efficiency gain from the Martian wheels, preferring them over the T-Sportlines.
