This threshold drops significantly for time-of-use tariffs, where driving over 30 km daily makes the $1/day plan worthwhile. The review delves into the complexities of integrating this plan with solar panels and home battery systems like the Powerwall 2. Tom advises against charging directly from solar or battery when on this plan, as it negates the financial benefits of feed-in tariffs or battery self-consumption. Instead, he suggests either manually scheduling car charging for off-peak grid times or, as he has done, having the installer isolate the car charger circuit to prevent it from impacting battery usage and solar feed-in. While the latter is economically advantageous, it's noted as less environmentally friendly.
