The Hansshow Gen 2 Supercharger Extension Cable prototype shows significant improvements over its predecessor, addressing key safety and functionality concerns. The cable length has been increased from 5 ft to 8 ft, resolving issues with charger accessibility for various EV models. Crucially, the Gen 2 incorporates an active switch on the NACS connector, ensuring charging stops before disconnection to prevent dangerous arcing. Furthermore, the amperage rating has been boosted from 250A to 350A, with claims of successful testing at 500A, mitigating the overheating issues previously experienced with vehicles like the Rivian R1S. While the unit itself is not yet UL certified, all components reportedly meet safety standards. Initial tests on a Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1S in cold weather showed no thermal issues and successful charging sessions. The reviewer remains cautiously optimistic, awaiting further testing in warmer conditions and the final production unit, but considers the Gen 2 a substantial upgrade from the problematic Gen 1.
