The 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale presents a stylish and appealing package, particularly in its plug-in hybrid configuration, offering good power and a refined driving experience for daily use. However, its appeal is significantly hampered by a host of electronic glitches and software issues, mirroring those found in its Dodge Hornet counterpart. While the interior boasts premium touches like the excellent steering wheel and paddle shifters, and the exterior styling garners compliments, the cabin lacks differentiation from the Hornet and suffers from a sluggish infotainment system. The reviewer found the ride comfortable and the handling capable, especially with the adaptive dampers, but noted a lack of the sportier steering feel typical of Alfa Romeo. The primary drawback, however, is the pricing; the as-tested $59,000 model is deemed too expensive, especially when compared to the similarly priced, better-handling, and more spacious Alfa Romeo Stelvio, which lacks electrification. Despite its efficiency and unique powertrain in the luxury segment, the Tonale's numerous electronic quirks and questionable value proposition make it a difficult recommendation over its stablemate.
