The EVPulse team embarked on a 1,300-mile road trip from Denver to Seattle, testing Volvo's new charging network established at Starbucks locations. The journey utilized the 2024 Volvo C40 and XC40 Recharge RWD models, highlighting their comfortable interiors, impressive range (nearly 300 miles EPA estimated), and the new in-house developed rear-wheel-drive powertrain delivering 248 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The charging network, powered by ChargePoint and maintained by Volvo, proved reliable and conveniently located approximately every 100 miles. While the chargers didn't always hit peak advertised speeds, they consistently delivered decent charging rates, especially compared to other networks. The reviewer found the vehicles to be well-balanced, upscale, and easy to live with, making them a strong recommendation for potential EV buyers. The integration of Starbucks as charging hubs was praised for offering a familiar and safe environment, enhancing the overall road trip experience despite initial skepticism.
