The Shell Recharge 40-amp portable EV charging station is reviewed, highlighting its dual voltage capability (Level 1 & 2) and adjustable power delivery. While it offers a robust carrying case and a clear display showing charging status, temperature, and voltage, several critical flaws detract from its overall score. The reviewer noted issues with the Tesla adapter not locking securely due to a large gasket and the lack of audible feedback upon connection. More significantly, the unit failed a cable pull test where the plastic jacket detached from the NEMA 1450 plug, and it is not currently safety certified, which are major concerns. The cable also proved extremely stiff in a deep freeze test, making it difficult to handle in cold weather. Despite its competitive pricing and useful features like scheduled charging, these durability and safety issues prevent it from achieving a higher rating.
