This video announces a significant milestone for Volkswagen in the United States: the commencement of production for the all-electric ID.4 compact SUV at the Chattanooga, Tennessee facility. This marks the brand's first EV assembly in the U.S. The ID.4 has already achieved global success, with 190,000 units delivered since 2021. Volkswagen plans to scale up production significantly, aiming for 7,000 vehicles per month by the end of the year and further increases throughout 2023. Initial U.S. models will feature an 82kWh battery, available in both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. A more affordable rear-wheel-drive version with a 62kWh battery is slated for production later in 2022. The expansion has spurred substantial investment in the North American supply chain, creating over 3,000 U.S. jobs.
