This episode of Adventure X tests the feasibility of charging a Tesla Model X using a portable generator, specifically the Generac GP2200i. The primary goal was to see if this setup could serve as a backup in remote situations, particularly when towing a trailer. Initial attempts to charge were met with "inadequate equipment grounding" errors, even with the Generac supposedly designed to work with Teslas. After fabricating a "bonding plug" to bridge the neutral and ground, charging was initiated, but only at very low rates (1-3 miles per hour). The generator struggled under load, sputtering and dying at higher amperage settings. After three hours of charging at 5-11 amps, the Tesla gained only 12 miles of range before it stopped accepting power, with the cause remaining unclear. While not a practical long-term charging solution, the experiment suggests it could provide a minimal charge in a dire emergency to reach a proper charging station.
