The Kandi K27 is immediately identified as the cheapest new car in America, purchased for $5,000, but also as unreliable and with a very limited range of approximately 59 miles. Despite boasting 61 horsepower and instant electric torque, the K27 is revealed to be a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV) with a strict 35 mph speed limiter, rendering it incapable of competing in drag or roll races against the older, albeit much slower, gasoline-powered cars. The Fiat 500 (18 hp) and Citroen 2CV (29 hp) ultimately outperform the K27 in acceleration due to the Kandi's speed restriction. The K27 also loses a brake test, though it stops well. The review concludes that the Kandi K27 is an ugly, unreliable, and slow vehicle, with its only redeeming quality being its low purchase price.
