The 2024 Cadillac Lyriq, in its rear-wheel-drive Luxury 3 trim, presents a compelling package with several standout features, but ultimately falls short of its high expectations due to notable flaws. The exterior design is praised for its handsome, aggressive, and distinctive styling, complemented by an attractive Nimbus metallic paint option and excellent panel gaps. Inside, the massive 33-inch display is a visual highlight, and the inclusion of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is a welcome bonus, especially as other GM EVs may omit them. The ride quality is exceptionally smooth and refined, and the vehicle offers impressive range (EPA rated at 314 miles for RWD) and strong DC fast charging capabilities (up to 190 kW). Performance from the 340 hp RWD powertrain is described as excellent and linear. However, significant drawbacks temper the overall experience. The motorized charging port door is perceived as cheap, and several secondary controls, including the turn signal stalk and the need to use the touchscreen for the glove box, feel subpar for a luxury vehicle. The HVAC system struggles significantly in hot weather, taking an hour to cool the cabin. Front seat comfort is also criticized for being overstuffed yet firm and lumpy. Steering is noted as numb and slow. While the Lyriq nails the fundamentals of range, charging, and performance, these "devil in the details" issues prevent it from reaching its full potential as a truly great luxury EV.
