The 2024 Acura ZDX marks Acura's ambitious entry into the EV market, sharing its Ultium platform with the Cadillac Lyriq but differentiating itself with an adaptive air suspension and, crucially, eligibility for the full $7,500 federal tax credit. The Type S variant tested boasts impressive power (499 hp) and torque (544 lb-ft), offering brisk acceleration, especially in Sport mode. While the interior is well-appointed with a standard panoramic moonroof and Bang & Olufsen sound system, the seats could benefit from more cushioning. The adaptive air suspension provides a comfortable ride, making it a strong highway cruiser, though its 2.1 miles/kWh efficiency is somewhat disappointing for its class. Braking performance (138 ft from 60 mph) is adequate but not class-leading, partly due to its substantial weight and summer tires. The ZDX's styling is a strong point, though the rear roofline's swoop is polarizing. Its key advantages over competitors like the Genesis GV70 include standard Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and a more comfortable ride, while its charging speed is slower than some rivals. Ultimately, the ZDX, particularly the Type S, presents a compelling, stylish, and comfortable luxury EV option, especially when factoring in the tax credit, though it faces stiff competition.
