EV Channels Review

Michael, a long-time EV enthusiast and former Rivian R1T owner, shares his deeply disappointing experience with his Gen 2 Rivian R1S. Despite loving the brand's ethos and community, his R1S, a fully optioned 'Tri Max Ascend' trim, has been plagued by critical issues since delivery. At just 800 miles, a complete front motor failure left the vehicle stranded, requiring replacement of both front and rear drive units. Shortly after, HVAC and thermal system failures occurred during a road trip, necessitating further repairs. The most recent issue involved a significant water leak from the roof. These persistent problems have eroded Michael's confidence in the vehicle, leading to the decision to sell it, despite the excellent support received from the Rivian service center. While acknowledging that lemons can happen with any manufacturer, the cumulative effect has soured the ownership experience, shifting from range anxiety to 'usability anxiety.' Michael and his wife are now exploring alternatives, including the Volvo EX90, though they remain hopeful for Rivian's future products like the R2.
