The new MG3, positioned as the cheapest full hybrid in the UK, is reviewed against the new Suzuki Swift, a mild hybrid. While the MG3 boasts a more powerful hybrid system and quicker acceleration (0-60 mph in 8 seconds), its real-world fuel economy in city driving (47.5 MPG) and on the motorway (53.2 MPG) lagged behind the Suzuki Swift (50.2 MPG city, 59.1 MPG motorway). The MG3's interior is a significant improvement over its predecessor, featuring a modern design and decent materials, though the infotainment system can be inconsistent. However, a major drawback is the lack of steering wheel reach adjustment. The Suzuki Swift, despite its simpler mild-hybrid system, proved more economical and practical, offering better boot space and rear passenger room. Its driving dynamics are also praised for being agile and fun, with a well-weighted steering and a good manual gearbox. Although the MG3 is better equipped in its range-topping trim (heated steering wheel, 360 camera), the Swift emerges as the overall winner due to its superior fuel efficiency, practicality, driving engagement, and lower monthly PCP finance costs. Safety ratings are pending for both, but the Swift's previous generation scored lower than MG's recent models.
