The MG IM6 Performance SUV aims to challenge the Tesla Model Y, but falls short in several key areas despite its impressive performance figures. While the dual-motor AWD system delivers a blistering 3.4-second 0-100 km/h acceleration, matching its claimed performance, this comes at the cost of poor energy efficiency, averaging 22 kWh/100km, resulting in a real-world range of just over 450 km, significantly less than its WLTP rating and far behind the Model Y. The interior boasts high perceived quality with extensive artificial leather, but this is marred by cheap plastics in lower areas and a confusing, overly digital interface that buries essential controls. The ride quality is a major disappointment; despite air suspension, it's reactive, knobbly, and struggles with bumps, failing to provide the luxury experience expected. Driver assistance systems are intrusive and annoying, often requiring deactivation for a peaceful drive. Positives include rapid 800V charging capability (up to 396 kW), a quiet cabin thanks to noise-cancelling tech, and excellent maneuverability thanks to rear-axle steering. However, the IM6's compromised ride, poor efficiency, and distracting tech prevent it from being a true Model Y rival, with the IM5 sedan offering a better driving experience.
