The 2025 BMW M5 (G90) presents a significant evolution, marked by the return of the Touring (wagon) variant, though the primary focus here is the sedan. A key point of contention is its hybridized drivetrain, derived from the XM, which adds approximately 1,000 lbs compared to the previous F90 generation. Despite the added weight, BMW has engineered the most powerful M5 to date, boasting a combined output of 717 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque, enabling a 0-60 mph time of around 3.5 seconds. The powertrain features a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 (S68) paired with an 8-speed automatic and a 194 hp electric motor powered by a 14.8 kWh battery, offering up to 30 miles of pure electric range. The M xDrive AWD system remains rear-biased and can be switched to RWD. The chassis benefits from a CLAR platform, double wishbone front suspension, multi-link rear, adaptive dampers, extra bracing, and rear-axle steering. Pricing starts at $119,000. While the hybridization addresses emissions and power demands, the substantial weight increase is a notable drawback.
