The TOPDON PulseQ 40-amp smart EV charger offers a compelling package with its NEMA 4 enclosure, good connector and holster design, and competitive pricing, especially for the 25-foot cable version. However, significant drawbacks detract from its overall value. The unit failed a critical automatic restart test, meaning power flickers could leave vehicles uncharged. Furthermore, its cold-weather cable performance is exceptionally poor, becoming stiff and unmanageable in freezing temperatures, making it unsuitable for outdoor use in cold climates. The reviewer also experienced persistent issues connecting to the PulseQ app, with no callback from tech support, significantly hindering the 'smart' functionality. While the charger works as a basic unit, these failures, particularly the automatic restart and app connectivity, are major concerns.
