Kia has officially announced the EV3, a compact electric SUV targeting a competitive segment. The vehicle is slated for Europe and Asia in 2024, with North America following in 2025. Key highlights include a target starting price around $30,000 and an estimated range exceeding 300 miles with the larger 81 kWh battery. However, the EV3 will not feature all-wheel drive, exclusively offering a front-wheel-drive setup with a 150 kW motor, mirroring the Niro EV's specifications. It also foregoes 800-volt fast charging, opting for a slower 400-volt system, which is likely a strategy to maintain affordability. The design is described as polarizing but bold, aligning with Kia's 'Opposites United' philosophy. A significant concern for the North American market is the absence of AWD and the uncertainty regarding the adoption of the North American Charging Standard (NACS) for its initial launch, though Kia plans to integrate it from late 2024.
