Volkswagen has unveiled the production-intent ID. Polo and ID. Polo GTI at the IAA in Munich, with production slated for 2026 and an anticipated starting price of €25,000. The ID. Polo, previously known as the ID.2, will be front-wheel drive, based on the MEB Plus platform, and aims for a 'cheap and cheerful' market position. While the exterior design is praised for staying remarkably close to the concept, the interior, particularly the large screen, is met with skepticism. The ID. Polo GTI is expected to offer around 220 horsepower. Key concerns include the potential for a basic tech offering, as it won't feature advanced software like Rivian's, and the uncertainty of its US market availability. Despite these points, the design is considered a strong point, and the potential for a fun, affordable hatchback is high, provided Volkswagen can manage weight and cost effectively.
