The 2023 BMW X6M and X5M LCI facelifts receive significant updates, marking the first time these M models incorporate mild-hybrid technology. The 4.4-liter V8 engine is enhanced with a cross-bank exhaust manifold, reinforced crankshaft, and updated turbocharging, producing 625 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque, with a 0-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds. A new 48-volt mild-hybrid system integrated into the 8-speed automatic gearbox provides an immediate 12 hp and 200 Nm boost, improving low-speed response and reducing lag. BMW has also refined the X Drive system with a faster-acting limited-slip differential, revised steering, and updated Adaptive M suspension Professional for better comfort and sportiness. Visually, both SUVs boast an aggressive new front end with slimmer headlights and a revised grille, while the X6 M gains a more pronounced lower splitter. Inside, the most significant change is the adoption of BMW Operating System 8 with a large curved display, replacing many physical buttons. The reviewer highlights the X5's larger boot space compared to the X6, but expresses a preference for the X6's overall aggressive styling. The M60i variant also receives the S68 V8 engine, previously exclusive to full M models.
