The 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale Veloce PHEV is presented as a stylish and desirable compact SUV, but its appeal is significantly hampered by reliability concerns and a laggy infotainment system. While the exterior design, paint quality, and wheels are lauded as class-leading, the vehicle suffers from persistent electronic warnings, including issues with lane keep assist and collision sensors, even with very low mileage. The powertrain, a 1.3L turbo plug-in hybrid producing 285 horsepower, is described as feeling less potent than its numbers suggest, particularly when the battery is depleted. The handling is noted as competent but disconnected, and the ride can be firm. Positives include the DNA drive modes, a decent electric-only range of approximately 48 km, and the availability of hard-button climate controls, a rarity in its class. However, the infotainment system is a major drawback, plagued by lag, unresponsiveness, and connectivity issues with Apple CarPlay.
