Honda's Tech Day showcased a range of upcoming innovations, with the Prelude and Super One prototypes taking center stage. The Prelude, a hybrid front-wheel-drive coupe, impressed with its engaging driving dynamics, featuring a Civic Type R-derived dual-axis suspension and Brembo brakes. Its unique hybrid system, utilizing two electric motors and an ECVT that simulates stepped gears, offers a responsive and enjoyable experience, especially in Sport+ mode. While not a straight-line speed demon, its handling and steering feedback were highly praised. The Super One, a compact electric prototype destined for Australia, also garnered attention for its fun, nimble character. It features simulated gear shifts, a boost mode with enhanced torque delivery, and cabin sound and vibration enhancements, reminiscent of the Hyundai Ioniq 5N. However, both vehicles' success in Australia hinges on competitive pricing, a critical factor given the market landscape. Honda's next-generation hybrid technology, designed to bridge the gap to full EVs, also demonstrated significant advancements in efficiency and performance, with potential for integration into future performance models like the Type R.
