Chasing Cars conducted an exhaustive real-world range test of five electric vehicles in Australia, driving them until total battery exhaustion. The Tesla Model 3 Long Range emerged as the winner for outright distance, achieving an impressive 507.8 kilometers, exceeding its claimed range and demonstrating significant capability for long-distance travel in Australia. The Hyundai Kona Electric was crowned the winner for range claim accuracy, precisely matching its claimed 449 kilometers and also proving to be the most efficient vehicle tested at 14.2 kWh/100km. The Audi e-tron 55 Sportback, while offering a premium experience, fell short of its claimed range, completing 392.5 kilometers. The Nissan Leaf and MG ZS EV, positioned as more affordable, shorter-range options, achieved 226 km and 191.7 km respectively, highlighting their suitability for urban use but limitations for extensive travel. The test underscored the importance of range and efficiency for Australian conditions, with the Tesla and Hyundai offering compelling combinations of value, range, and livability.
