The BYD Shark 6 PHEV ute undergoes a rigorous 'Bush to Beach' test, evaluating its off-road, beach driving, and towing capabilities. While it impresses with instant power delivery (0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds) and effective multi-terrain traction control modes, particularly in Sand and Mountain settings, its off-road limitations become apparent on steep, rocky climbs due to the lack of a traditional low-range transfer case. The independent suspension offers comfort but raises concerns about durability and maintenance for hardcore off-roading. Beach driving is generally successful, with the vehicle handling soft sand well, though it did get bogged once, requiring assistance. Towing performance is strong, with the vehicle handling a 1.6-ton caravan competently, though fuel economy suffers significantly (20L/100km) when towing. Highway fuel economy without towing is much better (7.7L/100km). Charging is convenient, with DC fast charging taking around 40 minutes. Ultimately, the Shark 6 is deemed suitable for general dual-cab duties, beach runs, and light towing, but not for hardcore off-road expeditions.
