The Volvo XC40 Recharge P8 AWD has officially begun production in Ghent, Belgium, marking Volvo's first all-electric model built on the CMA platform, shared with the Polestar 2. It offers brisk acceleration, achieving 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds, and can fast charge to 80% in 40 minutes, peaking at 150 kW. A significant positive noted is the enthusiasm from Volvo dealerships, who are eager to sell the vehicle, a stark contrast to past dealer indifference towards EVs. However, a potential drawback for the US market is its estimated launch price of around $55,000, which may disqualify it from the new $5,000 New Jersey state EV rebate, unlike some competitors. Despite this, the XC40 Recharge is praised for its premium, well-built Scandinavian design and is expected to retain Volvo's loyal customer base.
