Lucid Motors has officially gained access to the Tesla Supercharger Network, a significant milestone for the brand and its customers. However, this access is initially limited to the newly released Lucid Gravity SUV, which features a native NACS port. Lucid Air owners will have to wait an additional one to two months for access, and their charging experience will be significantly different. The Gravity boasts impressive charging capabilities, with a peak of 400 kW and sustained high rates, benefiting from a redesigned 900-volt architecture and new battery chemistry co-developed with Panasonic. This allows for faster charging and better thermal management compared to the Lucid Air. While the Air will gain Tesla Supercharger access, its charging rate will be capped at approximately 50 kW due to its older architecture, making CCS stations a faster option for Air owners. Lucid plans to provide NACS adapters for both models, with adapters being standard for the Gravity and details forthcoming for the Air. The company emphasizes a focus on battery longevity, with data suggesting fast charging does not negatively impact battery health, and may even improve it in some cases. Lucid is also pivoting away from unlimited free charging programs towards incentivizing home charging.
