The Kia e-Soul (or Soul EV in the US) is presented as a surprisingly compelling electric vehicle, even outshining the more hyped EV6 in some aspects for the reviewer. Despite its boxy, less aerodynamic design (drag coefficient of 0.35), the e-Soul impresses with its comfortable ride, thanks to independent rear suspension, and a genuinely fun driving experience, particularly in Sport mode. The reviewer highlights the brisk acceleration, the quiet operation, and the well-judged regenerative braking system, which can bring the car to a complete halt without brake pedal input. Interior features like custom EV-themed mats, embedded mood lighting, and a standard heat pump are noted positives. However, the trunk space is described as poor with a high loading lip, and the exterior styling is somewhat marred by an optional SUV appearance pack and polarizing 17-inch wheel design. The larger 64 kWh battery offers a WLTP range of 452 km, with real-world estimates around 350 km in cool temperatures. While not as refined at higher speeds as some competitors due to its aerodynamics, the e-Soul is praised for its value, costing significantly less than the EV6 while offering a practical, comfortable, and enjoyable electric driving experience.
