EV Channels Review

The Genesis G80 Electrified presents a unique proposition as a luxury electric sedan built on an internal combustion engine platform. While it offers a plush interior with high-quality materials like leather and recycled wood, and features like a massage function for the driver's seat and a three-zone climate control, its EV architecture shows compromises. The battery size (87.2 kWh) is smaller than many competitors, leading to a real-world range closer to 220-240 miles, falling short of the 280-mile EPA claim. Charging, despite supporting 350kW, was problematic during testing, with issues at Electrify America stations and even home charging. The lack of a front trunk and limited rear cargo space due to the placement of components are significant drawbacks. Furthermore, the exterior styling, while luxurious, borrows heavily from other brands, and the absence of a panoramic sunroof is a notable omission for a modern luxury vehicle. The G80 Electrified aims for luxury and comfort but struggles to fully embrace its electric identity, making it feel more like a converted ICE vehicle than a purpose-built EV.
